The Main House

Jane and Reg invite you to share with them the beautiful house and grounds of Hafod Wen. Situated on the outskirts of Harlech, the house nestles on the escarpment overlooking the majestic sweep of Harlech beach, the sea, and towards the Snowdonia mountains.

Morfa Harlech directly below the house is a designated (SSSI) and our private path leads through it to the public foot path, near Royal St Davids Golf Course, which then leads to Harlech beach. This unique coastal holiday home makes for a very special holiday with over 8 acres of grounds to enjoy. Later belonging to the benevolent Cadbury Quaker family, the famous chocolate manufacturers, it was built in 1904 by an army Colonel who had spent time in South Africa during the Boer War and its design reflects the architecture with Cape Dutch gables and a red tiled roof.

The interior is reminiscent of the sumptuousness of the Edwardian period with a wealth of antique furniture balanced by stylish fabrics in curtains, bedding and walls covered in the owner's and her family's art work

Well equipped kitchen with cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge/freezer

Dining Room has table and chairs seating 8, with a beautiful bookcase and sound system

Beautiful Sitting Room with an Edwardian brick fireplace with open fire, 2 sofas, 3 wing chairs, 2 armchairs, TV/DVD and piano

Three of the stylish and distinctive bedrooms have French windows leading out onto the balcony where holiday guests will be captivated by the magnificent bay, particularly the panoramic evening sunsets. We regularly have guests who see a pod of dolphins in the mornings

Each balcony bedroom is named:

The Snowdon Room has a side window overlooking Royal St David’s Golf Course in the sand dunes and in the background Snowdon’s distinctive peak can be seen. The Lleyn Room has French windows looking over the bay towards the Lleyn Peninsula. The Shell Island Room has a side window which looks over our sheep field and Shell Island can be seen jutting into the sea. Around the house are private areas of seating, with barbecue facilities, and a private terraced half-moon shaped lawn

Hafod Wen has its very own Gallery where artist Jane Chapman MA(fine art) shows her work. She is very happy to spend some time with guests, by arrangement. The 8 acres of gardens has secret paths, lawns, footpaths, a shipwreck, bowling green and pavilion, with working vegetable gardens, orchards and beehives making the ideal place to walk, play, and be captivated by the extensive range of shrubs and plants. A new “Jungle Garden” is currently under construction, while at the bottom of the cliff there are pathways through a natural environmental area with many important fauna and flora

Our field, where a local farmer grazes his sheep with their new lambs, reminds us of the timeless nature of the area. Jane’s working art studio is in the orchard and she can be available to work alongside guests who can discover their own skills and enjoyment

The owners live on site in an adjacent wing and are available to help in any way. There is a completely independent cottage which is also available for holiday rental
